A commuter bus driver have been arrested by the Police at Ilasan
Division, Lekki in Lagos. The driver, Habeeb Muniru allegedly stabbed the
LASTMA official on the jaw with a weapon.
The LASTMA official, whose name is Mr Adesanjo Ayodele, was
stabbed by Muniru for arresting his colleague who is now at large.
According to an investigation carried out by Corporal Bello
Oluwaseyi and his team, the suspect was arraigned before an Igbosere
Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on a count charge of felony and also for stabbing
occasioning bodily harm.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Raji Akeem told the court
that the accused committed the offence on 30 September, 2014 at Jakande
roundabout, Lekki, Lagos.
He said the complainant reported the matter to the police
that the accused stabbed him with a weapon while on lawful duty.
Akeem said the complainant, a LASTMA official, stated that he
arrested a bus driver, now at large, in Lekki, Lagos for a traffic offence, and
the accused who was not at the scene when the arrest was made stormed the scene
with his bus and blocked the arrested vehicle, insisting that nobody could take
the vehicle away.
He further said that the accused picked an iron rod from his
vehicle and stabbed him on his jaw, adding that, when the arrested driver
discovered that blood was gushing out from his jaw, he fled the scene and
abandoned his colleague to his fate.
Akeem said that the offence the accused committed is
punishable under sections 172 of the criminal laws of Lagos state, 2011.
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge and
Magistrate Mrs Olumide Fusikat admitted the accused on bail in the sum of
N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Fusikat adjourned the matter till 21 October, 2014 for
mention, while the defendant was taken to Ikoyi prison, Lagos pending when he
will fulfil the bail conditions.
