Senator Accuses Journalists Of Stealing Phone

Senator Obadara
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation, Sen Gbenga Obadara embarrassed journalists who covered the official visit of the Committee to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company last Wednesday when they were searched for a missing phone.

The phone, which belonged to the Committee Chairman, got missing shortly after Sen Obadara addressed newsmen at the company’s headquarters. The Senator raised an alarm that his phone was stolen at the conference hall of the company, venue of the briefing.

This led to the closure of the main entrance of the conference hall to enable security agents conduct a search on all the newsmen who attended the occasion. However, the Senator was able to discover the phone shortly after leaving the venue of the occasion. The announcement of the discovery was made by a member of the entourage.

However, the company’s Head of Corporate Communication, Alhaji Muktar Baffa, apologised to the newsmen.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Edwin Olofu, directed its members to boycott activities of the company until an official apology was tendered.

According to him, the action is an attempt to tarnish the image of journalists working in the state.
