Farmer Takes Wife To Court Over Paternity Of 3 Children

A 48-year old farmer, Muraina Adisa, on Wednesday September 24 took his wife, Temitope, to an Iseyin Customary Court over the paternity of three of their children.

Adisa told the court that they had been married for about 15 years with four children aged 15, 13, 10 and seven.

The 48 year old man who sought dissolution of the union on the ground of his Temitope’s unfaithfulness, told the court that he reliably gathered that three of the children were not his own.

“I know the first born is mine, but I can’t say the same for others. They look so much like my wife’s concubines.

Adisa said his wife does not possess the qualities of a wife. “She does not even know what it means to be a married woman as she sleeps around with neighbours and all kinds of men.

“Already, I have become a laughing stock among my friends and family members; I have been reliably informed that the three children are not mine.

“I asked her to swear by the God of iron that the children are mine but she ran out of the house,” Muraina lamented.
He prayed the court to dissolve the union in the interest of peace and harmony.
The wife, however, denied the allegation, saying the three children were for her husband.
Temitope, who admitted having concubines, said: “I know and I can swear with anything available that all the four children are for Muraina.

“I only started having concubines recently because he also began to sleep around the neighborhood and would be away for up to five days and I have to enjoy myself too,” she said.

In his ruling, the President of the court, Mr Raimi Oyegbenle, ordered the estranged couple to be present in court with their parents and family members at the next adjourned date.

He expressed optimism that the crisis would be resolved amicably with the help of family members.

Oyegbenle adjourned further hearing on the matter till 29 September.
