The Police in Ogun State, South-West Nigeria are trying to
unravel the mystery behind how a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP
Sunday Isokpehi committed suicide after also killing his wife Gladys.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa
Adejobi who stated this while reacting to the tragic
incident, said the Command would investigate whether or not the late Police
officer legally acquired the double-barrelled gun he used to perpetrate the
crime.
The late ASP was said to have shot his wife to death last Saturday
September 20, 2014 after accusing her of being drunk, after which he also shot
himself to death.
“We are still investigating the
immediate and remote causes of the tragic incident. We will find out whether
the man was depressed or was under any influence, because a normal human being
will not open fire on his wife and then kill himself.
“We will investigate how he got
the double-barrelled gun he used to commit the dastardly act.”
The Police PRO also used the occasion
to debunk claims that the late Isokpehi retired as an Assistant Superintendent
of Police and not as Commissioner of Police.
He also said Isokpehi retired in
March from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit, Lagos Police Command, and was
living in Eledi area in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government.
