Charles Orkah, the man alleged to be behind the October 1
2010 bombing in Abuja has fired Festus Keyamo as his counsel.
A junior lawyer in Keyamo’s chambers, John Ainetor, said his
boss was sacked on Wednesday at the resumed hearing of the case before the
Federal High Court in Abuja.
The prosecution, led by Alex Izinyon (SAN), was to open its
case against Okah and his co-accused, Obi Nwanbueze, when Ainetor broke the
news.
He told the court that Okah called Keyamo on the phone on 7
October and told him to stop representing them (the accused).
Ainetor also informed the court that about six weeks ago,
Okah’s sister made a similar call, debriefing Keyamo.
Ainetor, who had appeared for the defence since 2010,
consequently announced the withdrawal of their appearance for the accused.
Izinyon confirmed that Keyamo informed him about the
development, but expressed discomfort that after four years the accused just
realised they no longer required the services of their lawyer.
