How do you repay a manager that has been there for you and
has inspired you in so many ways? The answer is simple—reward him with solid
performance week in week out on the pitch.
That is the story of Watford and Nigerian striker, Daniel
Ighalo; a striker currently playing in the top flight English football. Ighalo
has been a strong force this season in the current English Premier League;
scoring goal and after goal for his newly promoted club. The player has become
one of the most dreaded strikers in the league this season.
The Nigerian may not have racked up as many goals for his
dear country Nigeria; but there will be plenty of time for him to do that. However,
one man that can help him achieve that is none other than his current manager
at Watford Enrique "Quique" Sánchez Flores.
Sánchez Flores, a former right-back for Valencia of Spain,
is known for his special skill when it comes to developing young players. He is
credited with helping current Manchester City striker Kun Aguero develop his
game; no wonder Ighalo is fast becoming one of the most lethal forwards in the
English Premier League.
Sánchez Flores signed a 2-year contract with Watford in June
2015, and has transformed the English club to one of the most consistent this
season. The club’s biggest loss this season was to Arsenal, where they lost to
the Gunners by 3 goals to nil.
How long Watford are able to hold on to Ighalo depends on
how firm the manager is and the player’s ability to remain focus. However, his
current form may continue to attract the big boys, especially as the winter
transfer window draws near.
Ighalo would do his world a lot of good by remaining level-headed
and committed to his development as a player; and that can only be achieved if
he chooses to stay at least a season more in his current club.
