Newly sworn-in Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has
shut down the filling station of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
The Speaker, Adewale Omirin, who is a member of the
opposition All Progressive Congress, is on a month’s recess along with other members
of the House.
Fayose’s reason for closing down Omirin’s petrol station in
the state capital, along with three others, was on the grounds that the
location flouted environmental laws. The closure was done last Tuesday by the
state government. Its agents ordered the owners to submit their construction
approval documents to the state Ministry of Environment.
The Speaker, however, interprets this as an act of
intimidation, given the fact that he belongs to an opposition party.
