“Save My Country;” President Sirleaf Cries Out As Ebola Takes Its Toll On Liberia

Liberia’s President, Johnson Sirleaf has made a passionate appeal to the international community to come to the rescue of the West African Country, heavily ravaged by the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.

Sirleaf made the appeal in an open letter read on the BBC World Service.

Ebola-Black Market In Blood Serum Emerge

A new trend has emerged in Ebola ravaged West Africa as Bloomberg reports that a black market for treatment of the virus derived from the blood survivors. This is according to the World Health Organization, which earlier gave indication that this could be possible.

The WHO will work with governments to wipe out the illicit trade in convalescent serum, according to the Director-General Margaret Chan who spoke to reporters in Geneva today. However, there is a danger that such serums could contain other infections and wouldn’t be administered properly, Chan said.

Ebola-South African Passenger Quarantined In Lagos

A South African female passenger suspected of showing symptoms of the Ebola Virus Disease on arrival at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos yesterday, has been quarantined at the isolation ward in Lagos.

Folswe Elizabeth Maria, on board Royal Air Maroc, from Morocco was on transit and was said to have taken ill at the transit area of the airport after using the toilet. The case was immediately reported to officials of the Port Health Services who used the Infra-red Thermometre to test her and discovered that she had high temperature. The passenger was later taken to an isolation centre and kept under observation by Port Health officials.
