Aregbesola Weeps Over Killing Of School Children In Yobe

Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola could not hide his sorrow as he wept over the killing of some school children by insurgents in Yobe State.

The Governor, who delivered a lecture titled ‘Federalism, democracy and the future of Nigeria,’ during the Convocation Lecture and 66th Foundation Day Ceremony, University of Ibadan on Tuesday, said Nigeria should be mourning by now.

Ebola-Nigeria Offers Drugs Worth More Than $249,000 To Sierra Leone

The Federal Government of Nigeria has provided drugs worth more than $249,000 to Sierra Leone, a statement by the Ministry of Health said yesterday, Thursday.
                      
“Nigeria made the donation at the request of the government of Sierra Leone,” the statement said, noting Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, had already mobilized and trained over 600 health workers as volunteers to support the containment effort in affected countries within the region under the leadership of the Economic Community Of West African States.

The Ebola virus has killed more than 5,000 people mostly in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea.

Boko Haram-“Nigeria Needs The World’s Support; Atiku

Former Vice-President during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime, Atiku Abubakar as called for support from the international community to help fight Boko Haram.

The APC presidential hopeful made this call after events of the last few days, which saw the insurgents kill hundreds of people of people in Mubi, a town in Adamawa State.

“Amaechi Is Deliberately Spewing Malicious Falsehood”-Abati

The Presidency through its Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, has described the allegations made by Governor Rotimi Amaechi in which he alleged that the President did not execute any project in Rivers State as false and baseless vituperations.

Don’t Come To Badagry Expressway-Fashola To Federal Government

The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola has warned the Federal Government of Nigeria to stay away from the Badagry Expressway that is currently under construction.

The Governor was reacting to newspaper reports, which claim that the Federal Government of Nigeria was making plans to take over the project.

Recall that the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen announced not quite long ago that the Federal Government has concluded plans to take over the construction of the expressway from the Lagos State Government.

Two Friends Arrested For Allegedly Stealing A Goat To Celebrate Birthday

Seun Agagu and Gbenga Adedipe, two close friends who live at 49, Ijoka Road Dafog, Akure and 12 Arakale Street Akure, were arrested by officials of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ondo State Command, for allegedly stealing a goat to celebrate birthday.

One of the suspects, who confessed to the crime, said they wanted to celebrate the birthday of one of them, and that was why they had to go and steal the goat before they were caught.

How 3 KAI Officials Raped A 24 Year Old Woman

Three suspected officers of the Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI are now cooling off in detention for allegedly raping a 24 year old woman whose names have been withheld.

The suspected KAI officers, identified as Benjamin Akinade, Olayinka Olowu and Adebayo Ayeni, were arrested by the KAI authorities after the woman the victim allegedly reported the rape case to officers at KAI’s headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, reports PMNEWS.

The incident occurred recently when the woman crossed the expressway rather than use the pedestrian bridge at Ojota area of Lagos State.

Dangote Sues Zambia’s Labour Minister Over Bribe Claim

Nigerian business mogul, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has sued Zambia’s Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda, for defamation after he (Shamenda) claimed that a senior company official tried to bribe him, court documents showed today, Monday.

Dangote Industries Zambia, which is a subsidiary of Dangote Group Nigeria, is claiming an unspecified damages for slander and libel as well as special damages in the sum of 112,042.84 kwacha ($17,728), according to documents filed in the High Court today.

The Post Newspaper, which is a Zambian daily, had carried a story under the headline “Dangote offers Shamenda a bribe” in which the minister claimed that a Nigerian human resources manager from the company offered him a bribe which he rejected.

Riot Broke Out In Kirikiri Maximum Prison

The Sun reports that a rampage took place at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison, Lagos, Nigeria Thursday, as some inmates who started the riot allegedly escaped before they could be caught.

The paper reports that visitors have been prevented from visiting, with heavily armed security men manning the gates and carrying out thorough checks on vehicles coming out of the premises.

Shop owners and passersby interviewed by the paper, also confirmed the incident.

OBJ Says Chibok Girls May Never Reunite With Their Families Again

Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo popularly called OBJ, has revealed in a recent interview that some of the Chibok girls may never reunite with their families again.

“I believe that some of them will never return.  We will still be hearing about them many years from now, some will  give birth to children of the Boko Haram members, but if they cannot take care of them in the forest,they may release them,”he said.

Recall that the girls were kidnapped sometime in April from a Government owned Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, Nigeria. Efforts to rescue them have not yielded any positive results.

#BringBackOurGirls Campaigners, Others Plan Anti-Jonathan Rally For October 1

All things being equal, campaigners of #BringBackOurGirls and other groups have concluded plans to stage an anti-Jonathan protests in the nation’s capital Abuja on Wednesday October 1, which is Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration.

The protest is expected to have some pro democracy groups in attendance. According to a member of the group, who spoke to the Sun in anonymity, the group decided to stage the protest on Nigeria’s Independence Day because the government and other officials will mark the day.

The group hopes to compel the government to step up its plan to bring back the Chibok girls.

Boko Haram Installs Emir In Dambua As Original Emir Flees

Senator Ali Ndume who represents Southern Borno in the Senate has alleged that Islamic sect, Boko Haram have installed a new Emir in Dambua and chased away the original Emir.

“I represent southern Borno and Gwoza. The challenges we are facing are more serious than what we have faced before. We, the people of southern Borno, particularly Gwoza, parts of Adamawa and Yobe know that it’s presently occupied!”

Ebola-Didn’t We Already Have Enough Problems On Our Hands?

If you ever had an opportunity to turn back the hands of clock, way back before that infamous Liberian forcefully evaded immigration officials and imported the deadly Ebola Virus Disease into our shores; wouldn’t you jump at it?

Prior to July 20, 2014, one of Nigeria’s biggest problems was how to bring an end to insurgency in the northern part of the country. It was all about rescuing nearly 200 school girls kidnapped at a town in Borno, North-East of the country. A group of girls were kidnapped at a government college in a town known as Chibok. This moved the government into ‘action’ as civil society groups, the international community, and every citizen saw this as a collective battle.

Ebola Claims The Life Of Another Doctor In Sierra Leone

A fourth doctor, Dr Olivet Buck has died of Ebola in Sierra Leone after a failed bid to transfer her abroad for treatment. The doctor passed away last night after the World Health Organization, WHO said it couldn’t help to move her to Germany.

Sierra Leone had requested funds from the organisation to transfer her for treatment saying it could not afford to lose another doctor.

However, Chief Medical Officer Dr Brima Kargbo confirmed today September 14 that the Sierra Leone national had died on Saturday night. WHO had said it could not meet the request but instead would work to give Dr Buck 'the best care possible' in Sierra Leone, including access to experimental drugs.

Many Feared Dead As A Building Within Synagogue Church Of All Nations Collapse

Scores of people were are feared dead and several others injured as a building within the headquarters of the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos, Nigeria collapsed this today September 12.

Some members of the church and workers doing construction work in the church premises are feared dead. As at the time of compiling this report, four ambulance buses have been loaded with victims while some were taken to the hospital while bodies of the dead are reported to have been taken to the mortuary.

The leadership of the Church led by Prophet TB Joshua is yet to give an official response on the calamity that befell it.

Pakistani Police Arrest Suspected Militant Responsible For Shooting Malala In 2012

The Pakistani Police have announced the arrest of suspected militants responsible for the shooting of teenage activist, Malala Yousafzai in the head in October 2012 because of her campaign of girl’s education.

They boarded her school bus in Pakistan’s north-western Swat valley and opened fire, in an assault that also wounded two of her school friends.

Malala has since recovered from the attack, which drew widespread condemnation from the international community and catapulted her to international fame.
